Sterling Silver Jewellery

At Pure Argento we source and design sterling silver jewellery from the finest quality materials. Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by mass of silver and 7.5% by mass of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.

Fine silver, for example 99.9% pure silver, is generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength while preserving the ductility and appearance of the precious metal. Other metals can be used to replace the copper, usually with the intention of improving various properties of the basic sterling alloy such as reducing casting porosity, eliminating fire scale, and increasing resistance to tarnish. These replacement metals include germanium, zinc and platinum, as well as a variety of other additives, including silicon and boron. Alloys such as argentium silver have appeared in recent decades

TAKE CARE when purchasing so called sterling silver jewellery particularly from far eastern countries on well known auction sites. This is so cheap because 'you pay for what you get'! At Pure Argento we carried out an experiment by purchase some 'sterling silver' from Hong Kong. After performing an acid test it turned out to be fake and when the coating was filed off, there was a unknown copper coloured metal underneath. Some of these metals can be toxic and cause rashes.

Rest assured that Pure Argento products are of the finest quality of sterling silver. Certain pieces are Hall Marked above a certain weight in accordance with regulations. Shop with confidence at Pure Argento.
